On our second day, we headed out to Badlands National Park. The formations were very beautiful, and reminded me of the many awe inspiring rock formations I saw Utah.
I was super interested in their active paleontology program. The visitors center had an open lab where we could watch and question paleontologists processing samples that were found in the park. Ashu got a kick out of this and gave one guy a good grilling. I looked for fossils during our short hikes in the park, but didn’t see any. Apparently its very common for visitors to find fossils there, due to the soft rock that erodes rapidly during storms.
We spent the night in the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, just outside of the park, with a beautiful view of the sunset.
